Frank
decided to settle down together with his mother, somewhere in the meadowlands
of Relegem, on the edge of a magnificent agrarian area.
Faced with
this architectural challenge, one glance at the landscape was enough to
immediately generate the need to go back to the essence of living and meaning of settling in. The
integration with the surrounding environment was a priority.
The
concrete roof fully covered with greenery arises from the surface and becomes a
shelter under which the residence is structured.
This green roof
provides a natural protection for the wind that blows freely over the widely
stretched field. And together with the closed southern façade, it becomes a
shelter from the heath during the summer . Ultimately, it also allows for extra
privacy
The actual access
to the house is hidden by a wooden fence, behind which one enters the
house. Whether by foot or by car, it offers an immediate access to the heart of the home,.
From thereon, the space becomes a gradual discovery of the housing
charachteristics of the inhabitants: the dark sorrel colour of the concrete
–the colour of the meadow – is very present in the interior, and alternates with glass and wood.
The house slowly
opens up to the landscape beyond: a site in contemporary prehistory
