Is it possible to combine references to the Soviet aircraft designer and unique natural objects of the Tomsk region in one project? Our bureau succeeded.
We sought to find elements that reflect the identity of the region. The central figure of the concept was Nikolai Ilyich Kamov, an outstanding Soviet aircraft designer. His inventions and developments are reflected in the airport's interior design.
The natural reflection was the Blue Cliff, made of blue-gray slate, the travertine cascade - a waterfall that falls in ledges over 40 meters, and the largest Vasyugan swamps in the world.
The main idea of ceiling design is to convey the movement of air currents. This is realized using waves from a PVA mesh. Illuminated metal slats resemble the landscape of the Vasyugan swamps. Inside the light lanterns there are propellers with two axes and three blades - a key development by Nikolai Kamov.
Decorative plaster with imitation stone slab is reminiscent of Blue Cliff. Wall decoration and central lighting using perforated metal panels emphasize the aviation theme. Porcelain stoneware is used as a floor covering because it is one of the most wear-resistant materials. Greening your space creates coziness and reduces pre-flight stress.
The new Tomsk airport is a unique project that manages to harmoniously combine the history and nature of the region. We created a space that reflects the identity of the Tomsk region and perpetuates the achievements of Nikolai Kamov.
