ASPECT Studios collaborated with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder to design and deliver a new civic centre that will shape its long-term development and revitalise the city centre.
The project has been designed as a series of interconnected public realm spaces that support the daily rituals of the community through fostering social interaction, play, outdoor dining and entertainment opportunities. The precinct has been designed to activate retail frontages and laneways, support special events and be a destination in its own right.
The town’s unique location and historical and environmental contexts have informed the projects cultural narrative that has inspired the design of the custom paving design, furniture, water features, lighting, playground and shade structures. The precinct includes a strong pedestrian focused network of streets, laneways and plazas that link together the historic building and future development sites.
The revitalisation of the city centre supports economic development and trade by attracting locals, tourist and new businesses to the historic heart of the city.
