Green Space for Elderly People in a Grey City.
Phase-1
Nursing home is different from ordinary hospitals and treatment facilities. It is a highly habitable space where daily life takes place.
It needs special cares from helpers. It has to be well lit and ventilated.
Phase-2
Jungsan-dong, Goyang-si is located in north-west of Gyeonggi-do. It is at the bottom of Gobong mountain which is a small green space in a city.
Eastern side of the site is connected to the green axis of Gobong mountain. Trees in the forest are about to jump across the road.
Phase-3
The solidifying image of an old man is like a fingprint of time where accumulated image of his lifetime is sunk in. The image looks like an old tree.
Phase-4
The client wrote me 4 topics on paper.
Sturdy, Practical, Pretty(Comfortable) and inexpensive
Phase-5
For economical building cost, practicality and sturdiness, basic building form is set to be a cube.
To build the image of elderly people, the image of tree is used.
Strong and sturdy tree represents a healthy old man. It also gives meaning to the location, Gobong mountain.
Phase-6
Since the building area reaches the full scale, form of the tree is approached to the exterior skin of the building.
Repeated pattern of the three types of window reflects the sense of rhythm of tree.
Stiffness of the cube can be removed by the change of 1st floor and roof space.
Phase-7
It would not be a physically sufficient space for people who will spend the rest of their life.
I wish to comfort them.with interior space and roof space where they can enjoy their own free imajination.
