JSW Centre is one of the first buildings in India to use steel as the core component in a corporate structure of this scale. The plan uses the eye-shaped site efficiently to give an iconic form to the building. Design wins in arriving at a balance of modernism and minimalism in the structure as well as the interiors. Innovating with high‐performance, glazed, double‐skinned ventilated façade that blocks the heat while providing ample day light, the design offers significant reduction in energy consumption. The design makes a compelling statement with principles of sustainability and modern architecture entwined elegantly to create a functional structure.
Bold use of steel in the building structure is not only symbolic for the headquarters of the steel baron of the country, but it also gives the building a sleek look while enhancing its structural strength and capacity. The building plan is designed to provide 10 meter wide spans between columns on the ground floor. With the slanting design, this span increases with each higher floor. Terrace gardens and decks provide open spaces at the intermediate and upper levels. The large atrium space brings in natural light and fluidity in the form throughout the building, uniting the varied spaces within it. Glass walls and partitions provide transparency to the office layout.
The interiors enhance the transparency and promote the collaborative work culture reinforcing the organization’s youthful and creative image. Modern stark finishes and furniture are contrasted with warm wood-finish paneling and large canvases of artwork sourced globally. The extravagance of the high-quality materials is made subtle by the way of design application. Beautifully designed lights and fluidly morphed flooring complete the overall look of the interiors with panache. A 30-metre high post for the majestic Indian flag completes the desired visual impact of a major corporate player in the mainstream of India’s ascendancy in the marketplace.
