Intercommunity Action, Inc in the Roxborough area of
Philadelphia needed to expand their senior community center and took the opportunity
to adapt an old church and it’s annex building in the middle of the neighborhood.
The Center at Journeys Way is a perfect
illustration of how adaptive reuse can breathe new life into a community.
The old Church and factory building has been transformed into a state of the
art, senior community faculty with: a fitness studio, a large meeting room, a bustling
café, technology labs, multiple classrooms, health services, and office /
administration spaces. Our design approach respects the existing
architecture while paying special attention to senior needs. The
layout features large open spaces infused with color, wonderful seating niches and
gathering spaces for the whole family.
