Journelle

New York, NY, United States

Type
YEAR
2011
Completed in November 2011, Journelle is a high-end lingerie store in Manhattan. A series of curved, curtain-like display units define different product zones within the store. The curved geometry is applied to every scale of the design: from the bent-glass corner window with its fluted concrete knee-wall; to the curved cabinets with undulating laminated-timber panels; to the layers of curtains in the changing rooms and the rippled frit pattern on the windows. The geometry softens the rigid materials required for the high-traffic store, creating a sensuous space, reminiscent of a grand boudoir. By raising the ceiling heights and maximising natural light through the generous corner window we created a bright, airy store, appropriate to the brand's new location on the Upper East Side.
