This new 4,000 square foot home on sloping and private wooded site was located in the heart of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The originally house was thought to be a major remodel project by the owner. After some initial analysis it was determined that the original structure was in such bad shape that it only made sense to take down the house and build a new one.
The house was designed to preserve the trees on the site and to capture views of site and the valley beyond. The roofs of the house tilt in various ways to frame and capture various views of the site and valley beyond.
Much emphasis was placed on the indoor/outdoor connections of the house. Large decks and terraces were created to encourage enjoyment of and interaction with the site.
The owner is a serious cook and wanted a house where she could entertain large gatherings. The main living space contains the kitchen/dining and living functions which open to large outdoor deck space at the front and rear of the house. These decks are very much an extension of the indoor areas and serve as outdoor rooms.
