Emilio and Matteo Caravatti share the activities of the studio in Monza within the working group caravatti_caravatti architetti, in collaboration with Chiara Gugliotta and Elena Verri.
The studio’s activity combines professional works with a specific social engagement and a focus on public and community achievements. Projects have been often trying to underline the importance of the interrelation between human participation and architectural processes. Their jobs tend to combine in professional attention to a daily social commitment, as evidenced by the design experiences of marginality in geographical areas and social and public infrastructure projects in West Africa.
They are among the founding members of Africabougou Ngo, a multi-disciplinary association that focuses its efforts on behalf of rural villages of Africa Sub-Saharan Africa, relying on the direct support of local employees and a network of contacts with private institutions, rural municipalities, associations and local authorities.
Emilio Caravatti is professor of architectural design at the Politecnico di Milano, and is deepening in recent years the themes of space inside some prison’s realities in Italy, and working with the studio on projects that involve some realities of people seeking political asylum in the Italian territory. Matteo Caravatti, after five years working with Carme Pinos in Barcelona, in 1999 began to collaborate with the group of Architects Without Borders España (ASFE).
