Completed in 2019, Jewel Changi Airport is a world-class destination located within the vicinity of Singapore’s Changi Airport at 78 Airport Boulevard. Jewel is a retail and entertainment hub that establishes a new paradigm for community-centric airport design. Connected to all 4 Terminals, it is covered with an impressive glass and steel facade with a huge 4-storey garden filled with thousands of plants across the 21,000 square metres of landscaping. The breath-taking 40m tall Rain Vortex is the world's tallest indoor waterfall.
Jewel is both an architecture as well as an engineering marvel. Located in the heart of Changi Airport and connecting all terminals, Jewel features a precisely engineered glass and steel dome-shaped roof that presents an impressive view of the complex.
To achieve the continuous diagrid steel structure of Jewel, more than 9,000 pieces of glass panels, about 18,000 pieces of steel beams and over 6,000 steel nodes were used to create the facade. The facade which weighs more than 6,000 tonnes is supported by a ring of 12m tall tree-like columns and a ring beam at the edge of the roof.
Beneath the glass and steel facade sits the commercial floors accompanied by a huge four-storey garden filled with thousands of plants. Apart from retail offerings, visitors can immerse themselves in themed gardens with walking trails and cascading waterfalls, as over 21,000 sqm of space is dedicated to landscaping. The breathtaking 40m tall Rain Vortex is the world's tallest indoor waterfall.
