Proposal for a 3 storey addition on top of an existing
office building in the center of Jerusalem.
In order to maintain the existing façade facing the main street, the building
is set-back from the street wall allowing a vast open green roof. The new
addition is also positioned in a way that minimizes shadows on the adjacent
buildings.
Any expansion of a building adds a new layer on top of
the existing, and should be articulated in a manner that expresses this
stratification. The new addition was therefore separated from the existing
building, allocating space for the mechanical systems on the roof and cleaning
the façade from the AC units which have accumulated on it over the years.
