This distinctive loft is the result of a dramatic reworking of a 1980’s low-budget factory conversion. High ceilings and dramatic columns, still bearing the original patina, provide abundant character. The aesthetic was developed to play up these elements while giving a nod to the original industrial use of the building.
Extensive structural work on the mezzanine was called for, including a stainless steel tension rod suspending one corner from the ceiling slab—this work had a huge impact on opening up the space below the mezzanine.
Glass railings dramatically open up the space and provide a clean, contemporary look. Well-conceived lighting strategies address the challenges that accompany concrete slab ceilings. A custom “light fixture”— an illuminated panel hovers weightlessly above the dining table, elegantly resolving the varying ceiling heights.
