Therm Project/ Competition entry_01947 First prize Challenge:
Constructed in early 70s a building of former sport and leisure complex is situated on stunning hilly landscape on the bank of a small lake is to be transformed into a modern spa complex.
The complex consists of a health care centre, hotel rooms, a recreation, a restaurant on the lake, a gym, green zones located in health improving air of Jermuk.
Concept: Wrapped into Landscape
Preserving the main reinforced concrete structure of the building: "the box skeleton" we faced the challenge of merging artificial structure into the natural surroundings.
We have seen the landscape as an enormous folded skin. It is to approach, crawl up, flow over, wrap the structure, extend itself down to the water surface, spread along and bridge with the opposite bank.
The “physical mutation” of an existing building envelopes it with the land, merges it into the environment, blurs the boundaries between artificial and natural.
