The Rec Center at Winston Park fell victim to a fire while under construction in 2016 and DSA was brought on board to provide Architectural Design Services for the new ground up construction of the Vinik Family Boys & Girls Club at Winston Park. We wanted the architecture of the building to function as a playful experience and a teaching tool to educate the students on building systems. To achieve this, the design incorporates elements of the popular game Tetris. Floating ceiling elements with bright accent colors mimic the dropping blocks of the popular video game and create inviting and engaging spaces for the kids and faculty. The spaces were designed to be flexible and open giving the facility freedom and the ability to adapt spaces to their needs as well as promoting collaboration and interactivity.
