JazzED and Community Roots Housing are co- developing a new 7-story mixed-use affordable housing and music education center in the North Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle.
JazzED’s music education program will include 11,500 square feet for classrooms, administrative and practice spaces, a performance hall, and a reception and café area. Community Roots Housing will add 90 affordable housing units to the neighborhood. There are several key advantages to this co-development strategy: mutual financial viability, aligned social equity missions, educational opportunities, and community building.
By sharing the cost of development, both organizations will enjoy the benefits of creating a ground up facility in a centrally located neighborhood. The site is well served by buses, bike routes, and cars. The nearby Judkins Park Light Rail Station is scheduled to open in 2023. Expansive parks and green spaces are located within a 1/2 mile radius of the project.
Through collaborative projects like this, non-profit organizations can leverage their programs to create rich learning and living environments in the neighborhoods they serve.
