Perched on two adjacent lots in uptown Querétaro, this project embraces the site’s privileged views toward a lush green corridor and the distant hillside. The approach is rooted in our holistic design philosophy—melding bioclimatic performance, structural expression, cultural references, and the human experience.
Taking inspiration from the traditional C-shaped courtyards found in Querétaro’s colonial center, we envisioned each home with an inward-facing plan. This central void not only anchors the spatial organization but also plays a vital role in passive cooling—capturing prevailing winds and relieving the south-facing main facade from excessive heat gain.
The courtyard becomes a contemplative core: a private, shaded oasis that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior.
By flipping the C-plan, this strategic gesture ensures that both dwellings enjoy their own intimate relationship with the natural elements.
Along every façade, a series of small structural columns double as vertical brise soleils. These elements filter direct sunlight, tempering the interior climate while casting ever-shifting shadows that animate the architecture throughout the day. From oblique angles, they also serve as privacy screens, enhancing the sense of seclusion within each home. More than functional devices, these columns give the houses a distinct rhythm and character—expressive and timeless.
Together, these two homes reflect our studio’s commitment to architecture that is both thoughtful and grounded—responding to climate, culture, and context with quiet precision. Rather than impose, the design seeks harmony: with the landscape, with the rhythms of daily life, and with the architectural memory of Querétaro. In every gesture—from the courtyards to the tectonic look — we aim to create spaces that are lived, felt, and remembered.
