The H. W. & J. Hector Foundation enabled the Mannheim Museum of Contemporary Art the establishment of a significant group of installations by the internationally renowned light artist James Turrell. They were specifically designed and planned by the artist for the location of the museum. 'Floating Windows' occupy a unique position in the work of James Turrell. On two lateral facades of the building the light sculptures create its effect by multi-layered screens and cause complex intangible graduations of light. These transparent 'umbrellas' keep the underlying architecture of the building in their integrity.
To make the project happen OAP again had the privilege to collaborate with the artist and his light engineers, i.e. to design the screens, develop ideas how to integrate the installation into the facade and supervise the work on site.
