The Jafar Centre was designed and built to create a student-centric environment that encourages cross-disciplinary learning in subjects such as Art, Maths, and Computer Science. At its heart, central learning spaces such as the library, green screen studio, café, and Harkness rooms aim to promote collaboration. Biophilic design principles guided the development, prioritising well-being by integrating greenery throughout the centre and incorporating a roof design that maximises natural light within - creating a bright and engaging learning atmosphere.
Located on the edge of an existing campus with limited access the design required the school remain operational. Throughout the construction, robust health and safety measures were required to safeguard both the construction team and the school community. Despite these challenges, the project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
Various construction techniques and materials were implemented - a reinforced concrete frame for structural stability, masonry walls, high-performance glazing systems and low-VOC internal finishes contributing to improved indoor air quality. These elements not only supported the functionality of the building but also created a comfortable environment for students and the staff that achieved a LEED gold certification.
