As part of Benguerir’s Green City, the Jacques Majorelle School is a collaboration between Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and the French Secular Mission’s Moroccan branch (OSUI). Designed to meet the educational needs of a growing community, the project unfolds in two strategic phases.
Phased Development: Phase 1 focuses on early education, including kindergarten and elementary school facilities. It also houses administrative offices, an Environmental Knowledge and Culture Center, a cafeteria, and outdoor sports fields. Each grade level is separated into distinct areas to enhance functionality.
Phase 2 expands the elementary school and introduces secondary education, with two divisions per grade. This phase adds a gymnasium and additional administrative offices.
Urban Integration and Site Layout: The project is divided into two zones: educational buildings along the main road and shared facilities toward the rear with northern service access. This arrangement integrates the school into its urban environment while ensuring efficient student movement through multiple entry points.
The comb-like arrangement of the educational buildings clearly defines each section, with landscaped multisport fields and strategically placed shared spaces like the gymnasium and cafeteria.
Design Concept: Central to the design are light-filled courtyards, which serve as aesthetic focal points and functional gathering areas. These courtyards provide shade and coolness, essential for the local climate, while also enhancing circulation and the overall student experience. Covered playgrounds further add to the welcoming atmosphere.
This thoughtful design ensures that the Jacques Majorelle School stands out as a distinctive urban landmark while fostering a dynamic and enriching educational environment.
