This project is located in the small town of Cholul, which is part of the municipality of Mérida in Yucatán, México.
The program consists of an entrance hall, a multifunctional space (living room, dining room and kitchen), terrace, studio, workshop, the master bedroom, guest bedroom, service area, the pool and a vegetable garden.
The idea was to generate a living space that answered to the conditions of the context and to make the most of the natural resources available in order to maximise quality and comfort.
Our proposal was based on the use of vernacular materials such as local stone, the use of concrete blocks, natural light, water, vegetation and the town’s collective memory which is materialised using apparent block walls, polished concrete floors, stonework walls and the central garden as the main axis.
The natural setting and weather of the place were also great inspiration when solving the project, linking the earth and the human who inhabits it, constituting a symbolic structure.
With our project we intend to leave a testimony to local culture, preserving traditional materials and constructive systems as they are a vital heritage that should be protected and preserved to achieve the protection of intangible manifestations as a set of symbols, values, skills, meanings and cultural heritage of the Mayan people.
