For this two-story building, the design team conducted site and building concept studies to determine the appropriate configuration and how to protect the pond and wetlands on its newly developed, 48-acre site. Integration of the natural environment extended to all aspects of the design. For example, the two-story student commons and banquet rooms provide sunlit views of the pond and wetlands. The building provides a variety of interaction spaces and is designed to meet the broad range of student needs that are often accommodated in multiple buildings on a typical campus.Biology, science, chemistry, medical and radiology training labs and an industrial lab are included in the 37 general purpose and specialized classrooms. Also included are a learning resource center, an academic support center and multiple distance learning rooms. A 250-person lecture hall and divisible banquet rooms provide large presentation spaces and facilities for the community. A plaza to the south and east creates an exterior space for informal gathering or dining.
