The house in Itu is located in a gated community near the city. The project began with the selection of the site. For several months, we visited and analyzed the terrain, solar orientation, surroundings, and views. We chose a corner lot where the slope was oriented toward the most beautiful view and, at the same time, toward the north — the most favorable orientation in this region.

The first construction intervention was the creation of a level platform, whose elevation resulted naturally from the earthwork, balancing cut and fill and eliminating the need to transport soil off-site.

A single-story house was built on this platform, with no change in level between the house and the garden. The idea of unobstructed movement was reinforced by the choice of a single flooring material throughout the house. Both the interior and exterior areas are clad in São Tomé stone (white quartzite).

The lightweight, modular structure, designed for rapid construction, consists of glued laminated eucalyptus timber columns and beams, manufactured and assembled by Ita Engenharia. The 3 × 6 m frames are composed of two 15 × 15 cm columns and one 15 × 25 cm beam. The repetition of identical modules provides spatial flexibility to the project.

The house is organized into two blocks, forming an “L” that opens toward the north, integrating with the garden and swimming pool. One block contains the social areas — living room, kitchen, and service area; the other, perpendicular to the first, consists of a sequence of bedrooms and bathrooms. Between the two is a covered yet naturally ventilated and daylit patio, with the barbecue area at its center, serving as the main gathering point for meals and social interaction.

Because the street slopes downward, an entrance was created at the lower level of the lot, taking advantage of the difference in elevation to accommodate the garage, technical areas, and an additional semi-buried suite.
