A former shop transformed into a new home

Located in a declining high street with poor footfall, we were asked to look at introducing a new use for this long-term vacant retail space. After conducting an analysis of the surrounding area, we concluded that the most feasible use was residential. However, we took into account that this could change in the future as the street developed. Our approach was therefore to create a frontage that can be used for both residential and retail purposes. We did this by analysing traditional shop frontages and reinterpreting shop frontages in a new way, to create a distinct presence on the street.
