DIA – Dittel Architekten executed a new building for ISDB Logistik GmbH in Friedrichshafen on beautiful Lake Constance in Germany.
The challenge in this project was to incorporate the dynamic character, commitment and vision embodied by the logistics company in the design itself.
The architecture laid the cornerstone for this.
The representative, solitary building with its three storeys stands on an area of 715 m², alone and self-confident – a trait that is emphasised by the solid concrete construction. A special feature is the façade arch made of Alucobond with a steel supporting structure. It breaks up the anthracite coloured thermal insulation system and lends a more dynamic touch to the overall appearance.
The floor-to-ceiling glazing not only floods the rooms with light, it gives the building an open airy image despite the heavy tone of its dark exterior colour. At night, the atmospheric illumination sets the building in a visually appealing setting.
The flat roof is planted to create a link to nature in conjunction with the outer areas designed by DIA – Dittel Architekten. The outdoor facilities are also at ground level in the form of a patio of approx. 34 m² on the first floor.
The office building accommodates roughly 30 employees. The corporate identity of ISDB Logistik GmbH is reproduced in the interior design of the building. The colours are discreet and simple and the overall appearance is only broken by a light blue colour which is the CI colour of the company. The building has three storeys. On the ground floor is a representative reception area measuring roughly 280 m². Bearing off from the reception lobby are offices for about 20 employees. On the first floor measuring a total of 244 m², there are additional offices for about 10 persons, a large conference room and a canteen. The basement covering a good 154 m² houses the store rooms and cellars. The high quality furniture is a pleasant mixture of self-designed items and attractive designer seating elements. The custom-made furniture is mainly finished in white laminate. The clean look is pepped up by elements made of oiled oak. By contrast, the managing director’s office is decorated with black Corian furniture.
An important feature inside the building is zoning created by the interior design. Workplaces are set on brown-beige carpeting and the pathways are made of visible screeding. The design defines the areas.
Graphics are projected onto the walls in the reception lobby and the lift lining. They were created in dynamic flowing lines by the communication designers of DIA – Dittel Architekten based on the corporate design of the company.
Energy efficiency is a top priority at ISDB Logistik GmbH. Accordingly the new building was equipped with an air/water pump and a cutting-edge heating system comprising heat pump, chilled ceiling and underfloor heating. The visual highlight is provided here by the ceiling sails which allow glimpses of the concrete ceiling behind.
