For the Spring 2010 Collection, we were commissioned to create a space
evocative of a 1940's Hollywood soundstage, replete with vintage props
and lighting fixtures strewn across the runway. Seeking elegance as
well an "obstacle course" the space was to seem effortless and textured.
We expanded the runway to its full 22'-0" width, laying a plywood floor
and a haphazardly draped old muslin cloth backdrop. The models would
follow any of 4 paths marked in colored spike tape along the runway,
leading them up a staircase, through a rain curtain, past a wind machine
and around vintage Kleigl lighting fixtures. The warm tones and
sun-dappled painted textures worked seamlessly with the Collection to
present an elegant and chic Spring show.
