The house is built on an unusual subdivision of 12m X 7.50m lot size in a small alley of Bangkok's dense urban neighborhood. The north end of the property is the only access to the public alleyway. To the east and the south of the property, lies the garden of the neighboring homes of the same extended family. The Inward house takes advantage of this unique site by re-introducing a “courtyard” typology. To maximize the square footage of the usable space, the house is built right on the lot line and wrapped around a carved-out open courtyard in the interior. Architecture acts as a buffer between the bustling city and the quiet refuge of the interior. Each interior space facing inwardly toward the courtyard. The house is also taking advantage of the neighboring garden space for natural ventilation. The porous deep grey brick wall around the courtyard induces airflow as a natural cooling and ventilating while providing privacy for the residence.
