Invisible Shepherd: A contradicting yet surreal take of an architect's dream revolving around the essence of magical realism and esoteric spiritualism.
When in observation of the completely pulsating silences in the abyss of the landscape, one sees nature with the utmost reverence. It takes a second to recognise the friction between the installation and the idyllic pastoral views. The subtle contortion within the surrounding is hardly recognised at the beginning, and very slowly after a lengthy pause only do we catch a glimpse of the main installation, which remains in place, documenting the passersby. It houses a “shepherd”
The precarity of the shepherd is apparent yet is reassured by the comparison of him to the eternal guide while helming sheep who are in juxtaposition to human beings who are in constant perception of dealing with their own existence.
The framework bears the reflective surfaces, a bed arrangement for the "shepherd" and rustic cloth taking on the role of an improvised roof make up this composition. Only the shepherd understands the depth of the chaos and the delicate balance the cosmos is set in. The makeshift and transferable installation is a direct nod to the cacophony of the environment. The reflection on either side erodes voices of diversity and questions larger historical processes that in ways involve the marginalised. Since the installation itself tiptoes around the theme of existence, a tinyblip in the cosmos, the reflective surface holds up a surface of series of ruminations such as regret, satisfaction, and pleasure completely dependant on the viewer of the surface while concurrently functioning as a shelter and a shield for the "shepherd" on the interior of the space. The vulnerable population of sheep, the denizens watching and responding to their reflections are expectedly devoid of the knowledge that there are vigilant higher beings looking and watching their every move with empathy.
WHO IS GOD ? Is he an INVISIBLE SHEPHERD ?
The glass side of the reflection begs us the question, who is the creator really? Is He an invisible being? Or is He in everything? If the quantum of all mankind requires an explanation to a question, it would probably be this one. The unexplainable essence of life, is He present yet not visible to the naked vision or is he present in every soul and being and is absolutely diverged at the same time entirety across nature and beings.
When users take a glance at their own reflections, it merely exhibits to them what they are already aware of, the atheist seems himself guiding his own thoughts, while believers are able to see themselves guided, as within them. The sheep are a metaphor for the existence of beings themselves, all wondering is God within them. Or are they all gods themselves?
The unsettling truth of where the mind of a person travels when life is revolved around their activities, contemplations of the world are set in gridlock around them, successively creating a bubble of beings and creatures, while the remainder of the world is engulfed in a cloak of invisibility. The routine of the shepherd is confined to his own introspections while retaining a lookout for his herd. The installation is a rudimentary amenity for creatures placed in any location in the world - shelter. The psychedelic rhythm of the city has to be the furthest from themind when one is viewing this piece, the towers and glass scrapers are to be replaced by the towering hills and trees and rocks surpassing what the mind can indulge in. The polar angles in the surfaces are an indication of the skewed and varying stances of the dystopian context, the sheep, the shepherd, and the viewer. The viewer enables the protagonist as a calm individual traversing the world. Surreal and calm.
