The inverted office houses a mid-size web development and design firm. The 4000 sq ft space features a reception, two conferences, cafeteria, an outdoor green court and a work hall.
Conceptualization of the project was based on continual trials and iterations for the spatial layout as it drew its derivation from two main aspects of the project; primary being the optimum utilization of space; secondary being the constraints of time and cost.
While working with a rectangular space, a logical decision would have been to create a linear layout for workstations. But after deriving various iterations for the spatial layout, the number of workstations was maximized in a hexagonal formation.
Unique choice of materials and re-use of resources was maximized to decrease the carbon footprint and the budget footprint. Exposed brick work formed the core structure of the project which was further accentuated with exposed electrical and networking conduits and porcelain switches. Table tops were made from block board with laminate which were supported on cantilevered M.S. sections. Steel trusses were used for partitioning purpose. The M.S. truss is also used as a clipping/pasting surface for worksheets by the users.
A green cafeteria with open-able shutter is adjoined to the work-hall. This space serves as a recreational cum breather space by the employees.
Time and cost were the critical constraints in the project. It had to be completed within three months within a costing of Rs.20Lacs. The client intended that the costing should remain within Rs.500/sqft. Enormous time involvement was required in the project as the client was very particular with his time and budget constraints.
