Located in the heart of Houston, this residence looks to the “Lanternes” of 18th Century France for its architectural precedent. These buildings were one room wide in plan with large window openings, giving them an open, airy, and light-filled impression
Care was taken with the placement of this residence and ancillary pavilions on the large lot to avoid incongruity with the existing neighborhood density. The house is clad in Texas limestone with carved ornament representing local flora. Complemented by several secondary structures - the pool pavilion, the metal-skin tent cabana and two arched sinker-cypress pergolas - the house inhabits garden spaces designed by Deborah Nevins & Associates.
In 2011 this residence received a John Staub Award for Residence over 5,000 SF.
