DHL’s offices are
located on Boulevard Puerto Aereo just 200 meters from the landing strip at the
Mexico City International Airport. The challenge was to be able to develop a
work environment removed from the air traffic’s noise.
The offices and
processing area are largely composed of two areas. The first is an industrial area in which all classification
and merchandise-forwarding activities take place. It measures approximately 5,000 m2 and has all of the
loading docks to load and unload merchandise efficiently.
The corporate
offices are directly connected to the hall and are located so as to front onto
the street. The area is approximately 2,500 m2 divided between two floors. To
achieve the necessary acoustic insulation, a practically windowless double
façade was proposed by means of an 80 cm thick wall containing acoustic
insulation. The wall is two meters
removed from the office building creating an elongated patio allowing for great
flexibility regarding any opening that may be needed. The main façade is not affected nor is
there any exposure to noise from the outside.
The offices are
laid out off of a double height space where the reception area is located. The elevator bank and the stairs lead to
the other areas.
The offices have a
module for waiting on the public in the exterior near to the entrance in a
semicircular pattern with a portico linked to the main facade.
DHL’s corporate red
color was used on the entire main façade.
For the interior, a color management plan was developed using neutral
colors in the work areas.
