Xichong is a “heaven with mountains and sea” in Shenzhen. Xichong and Dapeng Bay have the potential to become marine nature reserves and eco-tourism destinations developed by Shenzhen and Hong Kong. To achieve this goal, strategic plans covering space, time, development, operation and policy have been made.
First, to protect and restore land and marine ecosystems, strictly observe the bottom line of nature, and to reshape the layout of mountains and sea; to focus on the return and reproduction of the flagship species “green sea turtles”, make ecological restoration strategies, and to delimit nature reserves.
Second, to create a resilient spatial development pattern based on safety principle; to coordinate the development of land and marine areas, and to develop tourist areas in Nan’ao Peninsula in a differentiated manner; to rely on traditional villages in Xichong, and to let architectural spaces grow based on the logic of nature.
Third, to promote the development of nature education in Nan’ao Peninsula that is open all day and all year round in for all ages, by digging the value of local resources, setting up diversified education facilities, exploring study methods and organizing various activities.
Fourth, to cooperate with local community, and to enable the public, enterprises, the government and local community to share the benefits brought by the development of eco-tourism.
Based on the distribution of natural and cultural heritages, the overall space is planned in a way of “large-area dispersion with small-area clustering”. The building strategy “hidden in nature” and “landscape architecture” are proposed. Villages are guided to grow by themselves, so as to create an organic, natural village form.
