Ocean and landscape of the shore is the main magnet of interest amidst the surrounding building development of EXPO. Like a blanket the historic City covers the seashore rocks.Instead of proposing a massive structure, this project aims at saving the existing skyline by creating “the void”. This “void” is an ephemeral section of the ocean 390 by 24/0 meters, situated along a pier. The pavilion is a metaphor of the ocean, while its visitors – oceanic inhabitants - are inextricably linked with it.The transparent “blade” of the pavilion is raised at nine meters above the ground to reveal view on the Yeosu bay. The lower technical floor of the structure emulates ocean’s profile underneath. The platform-fold made of the СOR-TENsteelshits is bordered by the curtain windows and “flourish” - roof. One floor comprises all the program of the pavilion: foyer, meetingspace, offices. Undivided free space interior is structured into zones by the very slim columns. Glass walls are open into the surrounding landscape. The simplicity of both the structure and its construction process is the formula of sustainability in contemporary world. This design proposes simple, but unconventional typology of “building-landscape” in the opposition to the complex architecture.Expo 2012 should at least, to certain extend, change the attitude of a human to the nature, and this kind of architecture will become an embodiment of this change. This design proposes simple, but unconventional typology of “building-landscape” in the opposition to the complex architecture.Expo 2012 should at least, to certain extend, change the attitude of a human to the nature, and this kind of architecture will become an embodiment of this change.
