In 2017, LAIKA in collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter carried out a preliminary study of whether a large Danish company could expand their existing site, in order to be able to stay at the location rather than move. One part of this study was to introduce activity-based work with floating seats and ratios on the work tables. After drawing up a building program, the company was able to initiate the expansion of its headquarters with two new office buildings combining laboratories, office spaces, and a new mini-dairy, as well as a new building connecting both new and old buildings.
The client had a strong desire to strengthen their DNA, and at the same time have the opportunity to accommodate guests and events side by side with everyday working life. The new building contains a new canteen, Customer Experience Center, meeting center, auditorium, cafe, open informal meeting facilities, and reception, and is a central focal point for the company's daily life, where the culture can grow.
LAIKA was responsible for the implementation of an activity-based workplace and has run both a design track and an extensive change management track in close collaboration with the customer. LAIKA has been able to facilitate a process where design and interior design principles have been developed in parallel with the employees gaining knowledge of new hybrid ways of working. 'Way of Working' was introduced to the employees, and gives the individual employee more freedom to choose where work tasks are best supported, and which strengthens knowledge sharing and collaboration across departments and business units. In frames down to the smallest styling details, employees are reminded of the beautiful nature they are in and the special universe of products that the company works with.
Status: In September 2023, the new buildings were put into use, and 200 people moved into the new buildings. LAIKA is currently working on the renovation of all the existing buildings, where activity-based work must also be implemented.
