A small, bright and comfortable apartment, just
like a hotel suite. In a large city like Milan apartments smaller than 50
square meters can become 'pleasure islands', if designed and refurbished with
style and a sharp eye for details that make life comfortable. 'White island' is
the name of the apartment located in a historic part of Milan closely behind
the Garibaldi train station. At the very address, Via Pollaiuolo 9, we find a liberty
house, which also appears in a book of Architecture, edited by Mursia Editore. After
its renovation from top to bottom the apartment seduces its visitors already at
first sight. The simple and straightforward kitchen overlooks the white lounge
that contains very few elements, all in harmony with each other: a sofa, a
library hosting the TV screen, a table and 4 chairs which all are small
masterpieces of craftsmanship. Like a hinge towards
the sleeping area the door pays a tribute to Moschino with its drawings typical
of Moschino’s style. The bathroom instead reminds of Armani for its sober gray
stone floor and the long mirror that achieves a stronger depth and more air for
this space equipped with a library wall. The bedroom is only apparently
minimal. A dominant framework mimics one of the classical Hermès scarves with its
famous "Kelly en perles." Two sliding
doors hide a cabinet of large wardrobe space lit by a spotlight. To top
it off, the room contains two large windows and a door that leads onto a
balcony with artistically decorated balustrades. The bright daylight virtually
floods the silently peaceful apartment and double window panes keep the busy
city traffic noise outside out from
this “metropolitan suite”.
