This interior design & refurbishment project in Agios Prokopios, Corfu, Greece, was redesigned to meet the needs of the occupants, in terms of fundamental architectural and domestic issues. This 50 sq.m guest room, with the bedroom space and kitchen/commons room solely divided by a furniture, had to be redesigned, in order to accomodate a young couple. Spacial needs occured, as well as lighting/storage issues. Additionally, a kitchen needed to be redesigned to fit the needs of daily life rather than tourism 2 weeks vacations...Lighting, as the only physical lighting is by the window light coming in, is solved, by painting the room white, using light coloured furnitures etc, in order to radiate light even more. Moreover, low - e light spots were placed in key areas, to further enhance lighting.Another issue, even more important, was solved by adding a mezzanine. The bedroom (almost 4 metres high) was divided vertically in half, in order to accomodate the bed in the top, living space for an office/ cribb etc under it. The wardrobes doors were also changed to sliding ones, to save the space when the doors are opened.Finnaly, the drywalls, put in the ceiling and wall to hide the bare concrete walls, were demolished, the concrete treated in order to expose it and put forward the true materialty, senses and aesthetics of this 'undergound' apartment.
