Spring Patio is a Yunnan-style bistro located on the second-floor outdoor corridor of MixC World in Shenzhen. The design of the space reflects the regional character of Yunnan Province while seamlessly incorporating elements of Shenzhen's local culture, climate, and site-specific features.
Shenzhen, with its warm and humid subtropical climate, is a city of youthful energy where people are drawn to outdoor environments and activities. The bistro features a wooden bench running along the facade facing the outdoor corridor, complemented by large fold-up windows. These windows can be fully opened during the mild autumn and winter months, effectively blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. This design extends the indoor atmosphere of the bistro to the exterior, harmonizing with the modular wooden benches and planter boxes across the corridor.
At the western end of the space, a volume housing a private room and wine cellar is clad in green marble, appearing as a monolithic marble block visible from multiple angles through glass windows. The use of green marble aligns with the brand’s color scheme and pays tribute to Yunnan, a renowned source of high-quality marble. The solid marble walls and stone columns provide a sense of enclosure and spatial definition for the wine cellar and private room. At the same time, the marble's delicate texture and luxurious luster contrast dramatically with the raw finishes of galvanized steel, corten steel, and architectural concrete, highlighting the inherent qualities and nuanced textures of the interior materials.
This contrast of materials carries through to the finer details of the indoor and outdoor spaces. Warm-toned wood, evocative of mid-century design, is extensively used in high-contact areas, softening the coolness and hardness of metal, stone, concrete, and rust. To enhance visibility, an illuminated brand sign is suspended from the marble wall inside the glass curtain wall, attached to a galvanized steel grille panel, making it clearly visible from the outdoor corner. A mobile logo lightbox in the outdoor seating area also serves as a recognizable landmark within the pedestrian street.
Given the bistro’s compact interior, design flexibility is key. The wine racks in the cellar, the shelving above the bar, and the lighting fixtures in the outdoor seating area all utilize prefabricated perforated galvanized steel studs as their primary structure. The height and configuration of these shelves can be adjusted to accommodate different needs. The modular design of the wooden multifunctional movable planter boxes and stools in the outdoor seating area allows for quick layout adjustments based on operational requirements, while also providing storage, lighting, and signage display functions.
