The project aims to offer a sustainable alternative that will promote density and ecological planning and still be able to compete in the free market. Hyper-consumerism has turned the urban landscape into an urbanism of percentages, the proposal is based on a manipulation of these figures ? design by numbers. With an intense population growth and increasing demand, Suburbia is on a building frenzy. Proposed plans tend to ignore the ecological, economical and social damages of sprawl. The question of this generic site is relevant to the phenomenon of suburbia in general ? can the issue of density be addressed by design? Can we offer a sustainable alternative that will still be financially attractive? On the Urban scale ? The proposal is basically a manipulation of existing figures. By rearranging the volumes (without reducing them), and increasing the density, extra space is cleared for introducing new programs. Inserting these public programs into the suburban fabric, can increase the social interaction between the inhabitants, reduce the amount of traffic, and lessen the ecological burden on the landscape. The units are built from pre-fabricated 4x6m modules. These modules can fit in truck, which makes them portable, and easy to manage. They can contain multiple programmatic options, which allow for both flexibility and variability ? the combinations are endless. The steel frame structure is recyclable, and eco-friendly. Green building technologies are embedded in the structure. The skin is a double skin that serves as a thermal barrier, containing both heat and cold. The outer layer is composed of PV solar panels, which can supply the unit with electrical power ? thus, rendering it self-sustainable.
