On the occasion of MADEexpo 2010 (Milano Architettura Design Edilizia), Federlegno Arredo srl intends to promote a competition aimed at selecting projects which highlight architecture which is sensitive to the environment and territory, to sustainability and the need for human wellbeing and quality of life. Environment and soundscape of contemporary metropolises.The theme is that of the instant house, A TEMPORARY RESIDENTIAL MINI-UNIT linked to the presence of young people with high levels of territorial mobility connected to particular metropolitan events.The project envisages the search for locations in the vicinity of important infrastructure systems (bypasses, motorways, airports, railways and new routes etc.) in which to locate groups or individual elements of temporary residential units and their services.The object of the competition is a single residential unit, with the requirement of modularity,which meets the needs of temporary housing for young people, also guests in the city of forthe Expo 2015. The context of the city represents the design theme: the unit is to be inserted in an urban space, at a location identified by the competition entrants for its environmental and accessibility requirements and its relationship with the surrounding area.The projects, for example, may re-use the existing building structure. Working with the infrastructure and infrastructural junctions, they can build an actual new settlement.The residential unit must have all the appropriate equipment, using existing systems and structures or, if these do not exist, newly-designed ones integrated into the modular conception of the autonomous project or connected to the urban technological networks. The competition requires research into and experimentation with innovative materials which are compatible with the environment and stimulating as regards sensorial perception.
