This house in the village of Madaket on the western end of Nantucket infuses the local vernacular architecture with an open, flexible interior that suits contemporary living. Respecting zoning and design regulations that protect the island's historic character, this new structure contains an open floor plan that allows an easy flow of circulation and light and air within a more traditional gabled and shingled exterior. The lofty upper levels, especially within the top-floor formers, create quiet enclaves for sitting and reading wile overlooking the busier first and second floors.
