The new ING Head Office is situated on Dózsa György Street facing Városliget Park in Budapest, Hungary. The building was designed for ING Real Estate Development Hungary, whose philosophy is to offer additional value by creating distinctive yet functional architecture. The brief called for a high-quality office building with an internal layout that meets commercial market standards. The formal concept is derived from the urban context.
Designed to be a 21st century transition between the orthogonal volume of the modernist Liget Centre of 1949 on one side, and the late 19th century eclectic style villas typical of the area on the other, the massing is expressed as three volumes linked by glased atrium spaces and bound together by stainless steel lines. In succession to the Liget Centre, the facade is free from the traditional placement of openings. It is truly contemporary in its composition, detailing and treatment of materials, as well as the quality of craftsmanship. At the same time, the facade design reflects the richness and complexity of historic facade treatments found throughout the city. The building successfully unites the commercial requirements of the client to the architectural historic context of the Hungarian capital city and contributes to a sensitive metamorphosis of the contemporary city.
