“Mobile M+: Yau Ma Tei” is the first in a series of pre-opening “nomadic” exhibitions curated by M+, the new Museum for Visual Culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District.
The temporary, 500 sqft ‘information hub’ was built using 400 crates provided by the company Watson Water and set up in the ground floor of a typical Hong Kong shop house. Formed into a giant piece of furniture, it functions as an information desk, reading and resting area, book display and storage space, as well as hosting other activities and events. After the one month long exhibition all crates returned to their original role of portable containers for water bottles delivery. The project was the starting point for investigating seven other urban interventions realized by Hong Kong artists around the area of Yau Ma Tei.
