The Infill House, also known under the name House of a Connoiseur, is nestled among rows of shophouses in Singapore's conservation district. Originally a local sculptor's house, it had many little rooms that were unsuitable for the needs of the new tenant. RT+Q approached the design by preserving the front shophouse facade, while also expanding the original space by gutting the interior and adding a new three-storey structure to the back half. An inner front door opens into a sprawling rectangular space that links the two structures. Guests can see straight through the home to a wall of outdoor plants at the back — a “borrowed” landscape that is actually government property.
