The new-built Inductotherm Group Taiwan HQ is located in a remote industrial district (reclaimed land by the sea) in central Taiwan, aka Changhua Coastal Industrial Park. This new HQ targets to combine 2 current factories of the corporation into one big headquarter.
Per requirements of our client, the design agenda is to deal with the severe weather by the sea, and the vibrations from the factory cranes which affect office staffs while operating. In addition, the main goal of this HQ is to create a young vibe working environment which draws young candidates to join while there are plenty of parkings for all.
Spatial Configuration:
Our form of strategy is separating the office building structurally with the factory one, yet the staff at the office reception manages the people accessing the whole site. The factory building is a 3- story steel structure with 3 rows of assembling line, each row contains 1 to 2 cranes operating above. The office building is a 2-story reinforce concrete structure, which connects factory, canteen/conference room through an open- air patio at the 2nd floor.
We place the building at the north-west side, where the adjacent building gives us best shade and block off the intensive heat in the afternoon. Meanwhile, this layout creates a large open space for yards and parkings on the east and south side. The factory building also blocks the west side sun exposure of the office building and the parking area.
The main entrance of the office building was initially and typically on the south side (street front side), however it was flipped to the opposite within the courtyard due to security and circulation considerations. By doing so, the safety of the people entering the building can be separated from the factory entrance loading area. Secondly, the staff in the lobby can easily manage the people accessing the site including visitors, deliveries, employees working at the office or factory.
The Façade:
Material used for the factory facade is concrete with STO Signature silicon acrylic based finish, it is a combination of Inductotherm’s product colors blue, dark grey, light grey. The material for the office façade is concrete and aluminum claddings providing an air gap for sustainable and energy-efficient building.
The Interior:
In contrast to the materials on the façade which are precisely cut metal panels and rational segmentations of concrete, we used wood embellished with copper panels focused in the reception area bringing warmth to our space.
Inductotherm Group are significant users of high-quality copper products and metal tubes. Those elements are embedded in some design ideas such as the metal tubing fence at the sidewalks, and product display cases in the lobby or copper cabinet doors.
We focus the budget in the reception area and meeting rooms, whereas in the office area we use white with a touchup of wood furniture for making it a bright and modern appeal to young employees.
In all of the meeting rooms we transform cost saving wood wool cement boards and plywood boards into rhythmic patterns and colors, along with laminated wood flooring and baffle ceilings all for reducing echo and reverberation through sound absorption.
