Compromise between City and Environment
This competiton is for rebirth 'Ahamdo coastal park'.
We propose the 3 main conceptual categories.
City of Participation
The proposal is to provide a framework of good public spaces in the city. In the case of <7colors>, this means high quality water space within the city. The quality of the public realm sets the standard of civility of the city and raises the design ambition of the citizens. The idea is to make the city as a whole-an attractive destination for newcomers and visitors.
City of Coexistence
The proposal is an integrated city, full of vitality and liveliness. We have tried to reduce the need for single functional zones in the city. Diverse functions are sited in close proximity to each other, compatibility permitting. A city of integrated functions increases the potential for adaptability when changes in the economy occur, and it reduces the wasteful practice of daily commuting that is caused by single functional zones in the city. One of the primary coexistences of the proposal is the idea of an urban wetland useful for water purification and as habitats for migrating birds and other wildlife. This offers an adaptability and responsiveness to change that a more fixed and deterministic master-planning approach cannot provide.
A Hybrid Effect
We propose to develop <7colors> with three intertwining lines Industry, Tourism and Education. Tourism, today is an important economic sector. Already enormous tourism developments are underway in the Korea. We propose a grand vision for Incheon Development called ‘<7colors>’. <7colors> will develop along three lines : a substantial economy devoted to industry and education and an equally important tourism territory.
Programs
The world is facing global environmental problems, we are now looking for answers through architecture. By creating a building that does not burden the resources of the local environment.
Integrating remediation, conservation and cultivation processes yields compounding results. The cumulative localized benefits resulting from infrastructure planning can be leveraged to create compounding results on the scale of the overall site. Infrastructure planning always reeds to think of the implications of the processes themselves : The flow of resources can be designed for environment improvement and economic gain. Coordinating these processes on a site this large can result in exponential efficiencies in each step of remediation, conservation and cultivation. In doing so, <7colors> can cultivate and improve biodiversity.
Development can rehabilitate the environment, not destroy it. All of the land that we propose can function to enrich the natural ecology. It includes wetlands, water treatment ponds and green of beds. Even the build-up urban areas can clean the water and help balance the ecosystem. The proposed land will begin to remediate the environmental conditions of the site, while the built environment will establish a sustainable urban network. Together, they will create an integrated ecosystem, remediation, energy production and optimized infrastructure will minimize the impact of development. As the environment improves so too does the potential for economic growth. Increasing the amount of wetlands will decrease the level of pollutions. As the environment recovers, the prospects for development will improve. Instead of striving for a fixed target of return on investment and ecological improvement, we propose a responsive system that continually searches for local economic and ecological opportunities. As a result, <7colors> will be not only a self-sustaining city but also a generation of investment opportunities with hybrid lines of return. This space of diversity and cultivation will make for a productive economy and livable environment.
Alternative Energy
Alternative energy production harnesses site-specific energy sources : A diversity of alternative energy generation methods can be employed across the site according to favorable conditions. An entirely sustainable city is economically beneficial because it establishes a self-reliant energy system that protects the city from external pressures.
Dredging and Mulching
In order to be a sustainable process, land-reclamation must be considered as part of site-wide environmental cycle. Intersecting the process of land-fill soil treatment and organic waste recycling creates an economy of resource flow that proactively improves the environment while increasing revenue opportunities.
Water Purification, reuse and desalinization
The design of a comprehensive water process will be a critical element of <7colors>’s resources management strategy. Efficiently integrating such cycles will not only clean the water but also increase economic opportunities and self-sustaining water scape.
Zero Carbon Emission
The proposed transportation system restricts private car use. Private vehicles can park at hubs located at the site’s borders. Inhabitants and visitors can use circulation monorail transit and bicycle. The following transport infrastructures are obviously essential for a successful development of <7colors>.
Plants
A phased program of land use is envisaged also in terms of preparation of soil and planning of areas of natural vegetation and wildlife.
And marinas, harbors coexist. It contains resorts and casinos, sports and institutes.
Smaller public spaces such as natural landscape parks with reeds and wetland set.
The promenade with water body continues. A smaller pedestrian promenade where the building approach the edge of the island make a vibrant scene with the building close together and balconies, shutters, awnings and street-front cafés.
