This is a residence for one family in Inari-machi, old district of Niigata-City.
The site is existing near the sea.
It takes a few minutes to reach the beach by foot.

The building is constructed at the height of the two layers.
First of them is a space of use for parking.
Second floor is residential area,
and central 1/3 of its space is covered with "Tatami" which is Japanese traditional flooring material.

The central space covered by Tatami, does not play the particular role.
That space called "Room of Void" and it has relationships with the other 2/3 space which play particular functional roles.
The role of "Room of Void" is continuously changed by the relation with the other space.
A whole room of void is decorated with timber except tatami.
This is exactly the silence freedom of space.

In this region, the wind blows in north and south direction.
So windows of this residence plotted for taking wind blowing from south and north.
And, opening of road side was made for taking wind blowing along the frontal road, and for daylight and for cityscape from south.

Outward walls of this building were covered by hand-made unglazed tile, for considering city scape of this old district, and for making inconspicuous appearance.

over time, I expect this building slowly adapt to this region.
