This project consisted of converting and rebranding an existing hotel property by separating the 732-room resort into two vacation destinations. In keeping with the new unlimited fun brand standards, both resorts appeal to the family experience, but each offers their own identity. To maximize capacity, the design included two new buildings to add another 138 guest rooms. The larger of the new buildings was divided into three pieces, creating a slight zig-zag shape in floor plan, to enhance views and emphasize the movement in the façade, achieved using tilting and angled full-height walls separating the balconies. Throughout the property, new standards were implemented for the 18 different room typologies. Along with upgraded fixtures and amenities, lighter color woods and textiles replaced the dark and outdated aesthetics to give the resort a modern and fresh look.
As part of the renovations, new entertainment zones, pools, spas, restaurants, and a covered outdoor theater were constructed to elevate the vacation experience by offering today’s guests more options. The new theater boasts a long span gable steel structure to accommodate up to 600 seated guests. Its armadillo shape consists of three overlapping roof sections to shield against rain while increasing cross ventilation.
To take advantage of the best ocean views, two new restaurants were added to an existing beach front building. The first floor was expanded using wood porticos which support the new restaurants and added outdoor seating. The roof rafters were exposed to celebrate this beautiful open space, while the original flat roof was demolished and replaced with a double curved thatch. To improve accessibility, a new exterior staircase and elevator were added. A separate building underwent a complete renovation to house the relocated spa and fitness center, as well as a new restaurant.
