When conceiving what makes a school a learning experience; creating gathering spaces outside the classroom became a priority. The experience gained in the social environment beyond regimented classroom time is critical to the development of youth. Through the use of “discovery areas” and the entry assembly area, social environments are integrated into the design. These discovery areas function as flexible learning areas utilizing a myriad of functions including the development of child socialization programming and as centralized group instructional spaces. It is our feeling that these learning zones reflect the imagination that the school’s excellence is focused upon; shared values, academic, achievement, and positive character development.
