Imaginary Brooklyn is a project that envisions a better development architecture for Brooklyn. The project sites are vacant 'gaps' in the urban fabric that become Imaginary Sites for sustainable, cost effective digital architecture. Projects emerge from contextual ques, emergent construction methods and sensitive material selection. #1 Metropolitan & Lorimer is an in-progress design using ICP construction, simple and inexpensive designs and parametric modeling to develop a vegetative 'skin' for an otherwise typical Brooklyn development. The project grew, two-fold, from a thought exercise on "what ICPs want to be" and a study in North Brooklyn building contextualism. Using a patterned screen for a green-skin, wire-mesh window boxes for individual apartment gardening and a rooftop patio, the design strives to create a better building-type for no more cost than the poorly-conceived and ill-placed condo buildings in the neighborhood.
