The “I’M Residence” building is conceived to replace a former cinema and theater built in 1939 that was badly transformed by some interior works made in 1998: these works have changed the original interior shape of the theater, the most important part of it, and so its demolition is possible.
This is the first non-public building built in the town of Avezzano using seismic isolators (Avezzano was totally destroyed by a very huge earthquake in 1915). The new building (a three story residential block placed upon a commercial ground floor) is surrounded by terraces so to have a great connexion between inner and outer spaces. Big sliding windows allow to enjoy these spaces and admire the elevations of an historical building (the Law Court) placed just in front of it.
The colour palette is simple: white, grey and amber for the glass panels of the terraces and of the entry. Here a door of the former cinema is used in place again, so to remember the previous destroyed building. For the same reason, the light design in the common spaces is conceived such as a film with its double row of holes.
The new building is equipped with LED lamps, solar panels and it’s built using mostly natural materials, so to reach a good performance index.
