Designed in collaboration with owner and designer Emily Yang Bauer, the residence is a serene architectural retreat inspired by historic Asian gardens and the legacy of I.M. Pei. The result is a contemporary home that fuses cultural richness with modern sophistication—offering a tranquil sanctuary nestled in nature.
Carmel-by-the-Sea is known for its quaint cottage aesthetic, and the Ikeniwa Residence respectfully nods to this heritage while introducing a modern interpretation. The home’s exterior features James Hardie siding and standing seam metal roofing to blend timeless charm with contemporary form.
Inside, minimalist lines and polished concrete floors highlight a blend of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. Expansive glazing, sourced primarily from Western Window Systems, ensures a seamless connection to the outdoors.
